HOUSTON TRANSTAR PARTNERS WITH THE CITY OF HOUSTON PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT IN PREPARATION FOR HEAVY AUTOMOBILE AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC DURING SPRING-BREAK

“Partnership intended to communicate with motorist and ensure a steady flow to and from Hermann Park”

(Houston, Texas) ----- Today, John R. Whaley, III, Director of Houston TranStar, announced that Houston TranStar will partner with the City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department to implement a transportation management plan for the expected high volume of traffic and visitors to Hermann Park during spring break which runs from March 11 –17.

The Houston TranStar partnership will employ many of the technologies used to manage transportation activities on Houston area freeways during this period. Some of those technologies include Closed Circuit Television Cameras and Dynamic Message Signs located on SH 288.

The Closed Circuit Television Cameras will be employed to monitor traffic and the Dynamic Message Signs will be used to communicate traffic information to the public. Portable Message Signs will also be employed to provide additional information for visitors once they arrive at Hermann Park.

According to John R. Whaley, III, “Houston is home to a number colleges and universities and with Hermann Park being one of the City of Houston’s most frequented parks we can expect to see a significant amount of automobile and pedestrian traffic. That is why we are excited to partner with the Parks and Recreation Department to ensure this is an enjoyable experience for the heavy crowds expected during this period”.

Houston TranStar will be providing up to date, real-time traffic information on its web site. The web site address is www.houstontranstar.org.
