Houston TranStar, responsible for providing coordinated, innovative transportation and emergency management services to the Greater Houston region, today announces that Brian Mason has been named the Consortium’s new Executive Director.

Mason, formerly an Assistant Director for Houston Public Works and the department’s Emergency Management Coordinator, formally assumed the role at TranStar Monday, October 17, 2022.

“Brian has earned a strong reputation for leadership and strategic vision,” said Carol Haddock, Houston Public Works Director and current Chair of TranStar’s Executive Committee. “He’s committed to providing quality services to maximize safety and mobility to our region and its citizens, and we’re excited to have him step into this role.”

TranStar is a unique partnership of representatives from the City of Houston, Harris County, METRO and TxDOT who share resources and exchange information under one roof to keep motorists informed, roadways clear and lives safe.

Established in 1993, TranStar is globally recognized for managing southeast Texas’ transportation system and functioning as the primary coordination site for state, county and local agencies when responding to incidents and emergencies.

With Mason at the helm, TranStar and its partner agencies will endeavor to improve travel safety and reliability, expand and enhance TranStar’s Traffic Incident Management Program, and enhance emergency planning, coordination of resources and delivery of information during hazardous events.

“I’m eager to lead this team,” said Mason. “The TranStar Consortium has been of great benefit to the area for nearly 30 years. We’ll look to grow and evolve as we begin a new chapter.”
