“Contractors Plan for Eastbound Traffic Switch to New Pavement and Re-Opening of

(Houston) – Beginning 4 AM, Sunday, April 27 through 2 AM, Monday, April 28, the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor, Balfour Beatty, will close I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound from I-610/West Loop to Washington Avenue as well as multiple direct connector ramps. The contractor will be performing construction activities needed to switch I-10 eastbound traffic to new pavement. I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be detoured via the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to I-610/West Loop northbound to continue to I-610/North Loop, to I-45/North Freeway southbound, to access I-10/East. Alternately, I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound traffic may detour via the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to I-610/West Loop southbound to US 59/Southwest Freeway, and travel north to access I-10/ East. A map of this closure and the designated detours can be viewed using the link http://www.katyfreeway.org/I-610NB/I-10_Totalclosure_0427.html. Other closures associated with this weekend’s work are as follows:

• Two outside lanes of I-10/Katy Freeway westbound between Washington and I-610/West Loop and the I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Washington will be closed Saturday, April 26 from 7 AM to 5 PM. Detour to I-10 eastbound and take the TC Jester exit, u-turn at TC Jester, and re-enter I-10 westbound via the entrance ramp from TC Jester.

• The I-610/West Loop northbound direct connector to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be closed from 4 AM, Sunday, April 27 through 2 AM, Monday, April 28. Continue northbound to I-610/North Loop, to I-45/North Freeway southbound, to access I-10/ East.

• The I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound entrance ramp from Silber will be closed from 4 AM, Sunday, April 27 to 2 AM, Monday, April 28. Detour via the I-10 eastbound frontage road and turn left on North Post Oak, turn right on Old Katy Road and turn right on Washington to access I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound.

• The Woodway entrance ramp to I-610/West Loop northbound will be closed from 4 AM, Sunday, April 27 to 2 AM, Monday, April 28. Continue northbound on the
I-610/West Loop frontage road and turn right on Memorial and turn left on Westcott to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound.

Following this weekend’s work, contractors will prepare for the re-opening of an additional I-10 westbound lane just west of the Washington overpass bridge. This will require the closure of the inside lane of I-10/Katy Freeway westbound overnight Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29 from 9 PM to 5 AM. Wednesday morning commuters will now have five through lanes between Washington and I-610 offering improved traffic flow in this area. The opening of this lane marks the early completion of another interim milestone on the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program contract which includes the section of I-10/Katy Freeway from east of I-610 to west of Washington (Contract G). This lane opening is occurring 30 days ahead of schedule and qualifies the contractor to receive a maximum incentive payment of $100,000.
