MULTIPLE CLOSURES ALONG I-10 KATY FREEWAY THIS WEEKEND
"Motorists Are Encouraged to Review the Katy Freeway Closures Notices to Best Plan Travel Along I-10”
(Houston) – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors for the I-10/Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program will continue construction activities this weekend with major closures in several areas along the I-10 corridor. Beginning 9 PM, Friday, April 4 to 5 AM, Monday, April 7, I-10 westbound in the area from Washington Avenue to I-610/West Loop and multiple direct connector ramps will be closed to switch traffic onto new pavement. I-10/Katy Freeway westbound traffic will be detoured to exit at Washington Avenue, to make a right and continue to Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and enter the I-10/Katy Freeway at Antoine. Simultaneously, the I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop northbound and southbound will be closed. I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 northbound will detour to Old Katy Road and turn left to the I-610 northbound frontage road and enter the I-610 mainlanes after 18th Street. I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 southbound will detour to Old Katy Road, make a left on North Post Oak to access the I-610 southbound frontage road and enter the I-610 mainlanes after Woodway. As part of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange Reconstruction, the I-10/Katy Freeway westbound to Beltway 8 southbound direct connector ramp will be closed for reconstruction beginning 10 PM, Sunday, April 6 until August 2008). Traffic will detour to the new I-10 westbound to Beltway 8 northbound direct connector ramp, exit Hammerly and U-turn to the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road to enter the Beltway 8 mainlanes. Additional Katy Freeway Program closures include:
• TOTAL CLOSURE of the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound frontage road between Beningus and Gessner beginning 9 PM, Friday, April 4 to 5 AM, Monday, April 7. Traffic will detour to the I-10 eastbound mainlanes to exit at Bunker Hill, U-turn at the signalized intersection to the I-10 westbound frontage road to Gessner.
• TOTAL CLOSURE of the Gessner exit from the Beltway 8 northbound to I-10 eastbound direct connector ramp beginning 9 PM, Friday, April 4 to 5 AM, Monday, April 7. Traffic will detour to I-10 eastbound, exit Bunker Hill and U-turn through the signalized intersection to the I-10 westbound frontage road to Gessner.
• TOTAL CLOSURE of I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound between Wilcrest and Gessner nightly Sunday, April 6 through Sunday, April 13 from 10 PM to 5 AM for demolition activities. Traffic will detour to the respective frontage roads.
Motorists are reminded to expect multiple mainlane and frontage road closures and should be prepared for traffic delays when traveling in the vicinity of the I-10/Beltway 8 Interchange.
