TOTAL CLOSURE OF I-10/KATY FREEWAY WESTBOUND & MULTIPLE I-10/I-610 DIRECT CONNECTOR RAMPS
"Demolition of the Temporary Union Pacific Railroad Bridge Continues This Weekend”
(Houston) - This Saturday, March 22 from 4 AM to 11:30 PM, the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor for the reconstruction of I-10/Katy Freeway just east of the West Loop will close I-10/Katy Freeway westbound from Washington Avenue to I-610/West Loop and multiple direct connector ramps. The contractor will demolish the remaining portion of the temporary Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Bridge that crosses the I-10/Katy Freeway mainlanes. This temporary railroad bridge was originally constructed to facilitate railroad traffic during the construction of the new permanent UPRR Bridge that opened February 19, 2008. The new UPRR Bridge was rebuilt to accommodate freeway improvements in the area. Due to the concurrently scheduled closures, travel in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 Interchange will be very limited on Saturday. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or seek alternate routes to destinations in proximity to this area.
I-10/Katy Freeway westbound traffic will be detoured to exit at Washington Avenue, to make a right and continue to Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and enter the I-10/Katy Freeway at Antoine. Other associated closures are listed below:
• Two inside lanes of I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be closed between I-610/West Loop and Washington Avenue on Saturday, March 22 from 6 AM to 2 PM.
• The I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop will be closed Saturday, March 22 from 4 AM to 11:30 PM. I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 northbound will detour to Old Katy Road, to the I-610 northbound frontage road.
I-10 westbound traffic destined to I-610 southbound will detour to Old Katy Road, make a left on North Post Oak to access the I-610 southbound frontage road and enter the I-610 mainlanes after Woodway.
