"Motorists are Strongly Encouraged to Avoid the Area and Seek Alternate Travel Routes"

(Houston) –This weekend, starting 9 PM, Friday, November 16 until 5 AM, Monday, November 19, the Texas Department of Transportation's contractor for the reconstruction of I-10/Katy Freeway will close I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound and westbound from I-610/West Loop to Washington Avenue and multiple direct connectors. The closures are needed to allow the contractor to hang girders for the new Union Pacific Railroad Bridge that crosses over the I-10/Katy Freeway west of Washington Avenue. Due to the combination of concurrently scheduled closures, mobility in the vicinity of the I-10/I-610 Interchange will be very limited this weekend. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to designations in proximity to this area.

I-10/Katy Freeway westbound traffic will be detoured to exit at Washington Avenue, to make a right and continue to Old Katy Road to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and enter the I-10/Katy Freeway from Antoine. Alternately, traffic destined to I-10/Katy Freeway westbound is encouraged to detour via I-45/North Freeway northbound in the downtown area to I-610/North Loop westbound to access the I-610/West Loop southbound direct connector to I-10 westbound. I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be detoured via the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to I-610/West Loop northbound to continue to I-610/North Loop, to I-45/North Freeway southbound, to access I-10/East. Alternately, I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound traffic may detour via the I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound direct connector ramp to I-610/West Loop southbound to US 59/Southwest Freeway, and travel north to access I-10/East. Four direct connector ramps will also be closed over the weekend, as listed below:

• The I-10/Katy Freeway westbound direct connector ramps to I-610/West Loop will be closed starting 9 PM, Friday, November 16 until 5 AM, Monday, November 19. Northbound traffic will make a right to enter the I-610/West Loop northbound mainlanes while southbound traffic will continue to N. Post Oak, make a left and enter the I-610/West Loop southbound mainlanes from Woodway.

• The I-610/West Loop northbound direct connector to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be closed starting 9 PM, Friday, November 16 until 5 AM, Monday, November 19. Continue northbound on I-610/North Loop, to I-45/North Freeway southbound, to access I-10/East.
