SH 6 Traffic Signal Update

The traffic signals at SH 6 and I-10/Katy Freeway that were damaged during construction on Monday night have once again been restored to normal operations. The contractor was able to get the signals operating by installing new electrical cables to repair the damaged circuits before the evening rush hour on yesterday, October 16 as anticipated. Unfortunately, the lights returned to a flashing state indicating further electrical damage early this morning during the Wednesday morning rush. City of Houston's Mobility Response Team were called on-site to assist with traffic movement while construction crews investigated the second malfunction. Mark Bathe, TxDOT project manager explained, “The fact that the initial damage and efforts to repair the line coincided with Monday’s really bad weather likely exposed the electrical system to problems that weren’t immediately detectable.” Today the construction crew replaced various key components of the signal light circuit and the lights at the intersection of I-10 and SH 6 were back online at approximately 1:30 PM.

As a precaution, the project team will continue to monitor the signals’ operation over the next 24 hours and will be on-hand to respond immediately in the event further repair is needed.
